An electric shaver can make life a lot easier when it comes to shaving. Whether you are wanting to shave your face, your legs, or any other area of your body, an electric shaver can help. Braun is an exceptional brand of shavers with a huge range. So, in this article, we cover the best Braun shaver models on the market, whatever your hair needs are, to help you to make your decision on which might be the most suitable for you.
The features we have considered in this post include the quality and number of shaving elements included within the head, the battery life for using it without being plugged in, and how long it takes to charge. Other features we’ve looked into include the wet/dry functionality, which will dictate whether it can be rinsed or used in wet conditions like the shower. We’ve also looked into the weight, and the warranty offered by Braun.
Our research has meant our time spending a huge amount of time researching the brand and their range of products, comparing Braun to other brands and creating our list of the top shavers. Our research is presented as a simple table to show the options and what they are best at (and who they’re best for). We’ve also included in-depth reviews and a buying guide, to help you to establish what you might need from your electric shaver.
Extra features: Responsive Intelligence and 10D flex head automatically adapts shaving to your features; slide-out precision trimmer; LED display
Braun’s Series 9 range is very impressive, and the 9296cc is hard to look beyond as one of the best rated Braun shaver models.
This shaver is designed to be flexible as well as efficient and responsive to your facial features or other areas of your body, the 10D flex head moves around and changes angle automatically to suit the features of the face. The multiple elements and trimmer is designed to capture hairs which are growing in any direction, this means a more thorough shave and smoother skin as a result.
Because this is one of the wet/dry models, it means that it can be used with gel or foam, and also that it can be used under water. Running water won’t harm this shaver, so you can use it in the shower if needed. You can also rinse off any excess hair.
The cleaning doesn’t need to be done in the shower, though. This is one of the Clean and Charge models in the range which comes with an automatic cleaning station which cleans and lubricates ready for the next use.
A precision trimmer slides out to allow you to reach tough areas and shape things like sideburns or neck hair.
This is topped off with a great two-year warranty. It isn’t the cheapest model of shaver but it is designed to last with the manufacturers recommending seven years before replacement.
Extra features: flexible pivoting head; LED display; ergonomic design
This is another of the series 9 products, meaning it is one of the best Braun foil shavers.
Though its charge time is not specified, users have reported it being longer than the 9296cc option. A 60 min use time is identical, though, and is plenty for multiple thorough shaves.
It has five shaving elements. This is more than enough for most men’s facial shaving needs.
It also has the wet/dry functionality that is such a big bonus, and is a relatively lightweight product at just 2.14 lbs.
The flexible head is designed to pivot and adjust to let you reach more angles. The technology of the shaver provides 40,000 cutting actions per minute making for a fast, accurate and thorough shave. It’s not cheap and is on the upper end of the market, but it is not the most expensive shaver either.
Some users have reported that this doesn’t really provide total smoothness and is more suitable for those who don’t mind their facial hair becoming more stubbly over the day.
Extra features: epilator and shaver heads; comes with a trimmer; MicroGrip tweezer removes even the shortest of hairs; LED Smartlight ensures you don’t miss a strand
The Silk-Epil 9 is a part of Braun’s large range of epilators, designed for treating large areas of hair and pulling out hair, similar to waxing. It actually claims to be even more effective than waxing at getting shorter hairs.
It has a shaver head which you can attach, which is why we’re including it in our Braun shaver reviews.
This claims to be the first ever ‘smart’ epilator. What that means is that it has ‘SensoSmart’ tech, which gives you a guide to how much pressure you need to apply. This makes it more effective. If you are pushing too hard as you move it, it warns you with a red light.
The shaver head is not flexible and cannot adjust easily to your features, but it is good for larger areas such as your legs. It only has one shaving element so may not be as thorough, but is good for removing a lot of hair before epilating.
It may sound like this method is quite painful, but this is actually one of the best Braun shavers for sensitive skin and leaves armpits and other sensitive areas feeling great, especially if used with creams afterward.
This is another wet/dry model, and can be used for 40 minutes on one charge.
Extra features: 8-direction comfort head and 5 adjustable angles; slide-out precision trimmer
Braun’s series 5 gives a good balance between cost and quality. The Lithium Ion battery means 50 minutes of use from just a one hour charge, and though this doesn’t have quite as much going for it as some of the series 9, it is still good enough for most of our needs.
The way this shaver moves and adjusts consists of MicroMotion and MacroMotion, meaning it has a system for small adjustments to capture every hair and large movements to alter the angle and suit the shape of your face. It also includes five different adjustable head angles. It isn’t quite as flexible as some of the other models in the range such as the series 9 products but it is still suitable for most peoples’ needs.
In spite of only having two elements, these are good quality and effective, as is typical for the Braun brand. They offer 899 different apertures for shaving even tiny hairs.
Just like the other models we’ve reviewed, this is one of the Braun wet/dry shavers that have been extremely popular among consumers, allowing for use in wet and dry conditions.
Extra features: 8-direction comfort flexi-head; comes with premium travel case and brush
The Series 7 product, the 7880cc, is somewhere between the Series 5 and 9 (as you might expect). What this means is that it has the same amount of elements and blade capabilities as some of the series 9 products and some of the head functions that are present in the series 5.
Four quality shaving elements give a thorough and smooth shave, and this is helped by the inbuilt chip which is designed to help read the shape of your beard and adjust the shaving accordingly.
The head is similar to the series 5 products in that there is an eight-direction flexible head which lets you alter the position and change based on the contours of your face or body.
We’ve nominated this as the best travel option. As well as only weighing 1.9 lbs it comes with a carry case and a brush to allow you to clean it either at home or on-the-go. The included Clean and Charge station allows thorough antibacterial cleaning, but can be left at home if you plan to take this on trips with you.
Like many of the other products on the list, this has a powerful battery which offers 50 minutes of use from just one charge.
Extra features: clean and renew system; pivoting shaver head; LED display; comes with hard travel case
This is the ‘basic’ model within the Braun range. It is one of Braun’s best electric shavers in this price range, and, in fact, one of the best of any brand at this price!
The shaver has some of the features that are on offer with many of the more expensive products. For instance, good battery life with a one hour charge time giving 45 minutes of use. It has the option to use a “five-minute quick charge” which can also provide enough power for one shave.
It has the wet/dry functionality which the majority of Braun shavers have. This is one of the cheaper models that gives this feature and it means you can rinse after use and clean easily.
This is another good travel option as it comes with a hard case for taking it out and about with you. At just 1 lb in weight and a relatively compact size, it is easy to put in your luggage and take out wherever you need to.
The shaver head doesn’t have any of the flexibility which comes with the more elite products on the list and as such it doesn’t give the same close shave you can get from the series 9 products. If you don’t mind sacrificing a little of the flexibility in order to get a more affordable shave then this could be for you.
To help you to make the right choice when it comes to a shaver, we’ve put together a full buying guide to help identify the benefits of good quality Braun shavers. We’ve also looked into the features you should be on the lookout for when you’re in the market for a new shaver such as this.
A bad electric shaver can lead to a lot of awkward shaving experiences and can lead to struggling to get the look you are after when shaving your face. Finding the best shaver by Braun which has features for your specific needs, will help you to get a thorough shave without experiencing any pain or discomfort in the process.
It’s vital that you get the right shaver for you, whether you are a man or a woman, and whether you need a Braun shaver for sensitive skin or a Braun foil shaver with wet and dry capabilities. Different shavers have different capabilities and matching the features only takes a little research but goes a long way.
Why Braun? They’re one of the leading manufacturers and their German precision, technological advancements and reliability can be just some of the reasons to go for this high-rated brand.
The following features are the main ones we’ve used to evaluate the shavers in the Braun range, a little understanding of these features and working out whether or not they are important to you will help you to make the right choices.
Shaving elements are basically the number of different foils are on the shaver. Multiple elements can allow different hairs growing in different directions to be picked up, and also means that hairs which are missed by one element may be picked up by others.
It is usually the case that more elements will mean a more thorough shave, and if you want to be totally clean shaven and smooth then it might be advisable to opt for four or five element models such as the series 9 9296cc, which is our ‘Editors Choice’ model of electric shaver by Braun.
Shavers with one or two elements can be good quality, but it is less likely that they will be as thorough, fast and effective as higher-end models.
The head is the part of the shaver which comes into contact with your head. If it doesn’t have any ability to pivot or rotate, it doesn’t have a lot of flexibility.
Our faces aren’t flat, and this means that if you have a flat, motionless object rubbing against them it is not going to be effective at reaching (and shaving) all of the different areas of your face and neck.
Other models of Braun have pivoting heads with eight to ten movements, which can also change angle to suit your facial shape. Even models such as the affordable Braun Waterflex 1S Optiblade Wash Bath-Type Shaver has some ability to pivot which can be extremely helpful.
Another feature which can alter how effectively the shaver is able to do its job, and also how quickly, is the number of cutting actions per minute. More cutting actions will lead to a quick and simple process and will help to ensure that no hair is missed as you move around your face. The Braun Series 9 9093s can go as quickly as 40,000 cutting actions every minute.
Some of the more recently released models of Braun shaver come with a “clean and charge” station, which is referred to as “cc” in the model identification number. If it has cc at the end of the number, like the Braun Series 7 Men’s Electric Foil Shaver 7880cc, it means it ships with a clean and charge station.
Clean and charge stations are somewhere to plug your shaver into while it is not being used which will not only charge up the battery but will also both clean and lubricate the model ready for the next use. The station has an alcohol-based cleaning system which means that it can be antibacterial and kill any germs which can creep in. Having these near your mouth and nose is not a good idea.
These two features are based on the battery that is in a Braun shaver. Usually, in a modern Braun electric shaver, the use time is better quality due to the fact that lithium-ion batteries are used in the construction. These hold charge better and can charge up relatively quickly.
A lot of the batteries in Braun shavers will charge in around an hour fully, but some, such as the Braun Waterflex 1S Optiblade shaver, have an option to run a ‘quick charge’ meaning that just five minutes of charging will give the shaver enough power for you to use once.
The top models in the range will have around 50 minutes of use on a single charge. This is true for the series 9 shavers which are on our list, and our Editor’s Choice – the 9296cc model.
Wet and dry functionality is whether the shaver is waterproof and also whether it is able to be used under running water, for instance in the shower. The ability to do this has such a huge benefit and can stop mess from being made in your sink or wherever else you do your shaving. It can also let you rinse out the shaver with consummate ease, stopping it from clogging up over time.
Wet/dry also allows you to use water, gels or creams on your face when shaving if you prefer to do so, these can make you face even smoother once you have finished.
Braun shavers offer pretty good warranties, with two years being standard among their range, but this isn’t exclusively true. Some of the more affordable shavers on the range have a shorter warranty or do not specify a warranty. Two-year warranties are relatively generous for an electronic product such as this. It can give you a bit more confidence in the product you are purchasing.
The following tips can allow you to get the best shave possible:
The very best model within the range, according to our in-depth research, is the Braun Series 9 Men’s Electric Foil Shaver 9296cc. The whole of the series 9 range is very impressive, but the 9296cc has the charge and clean system included and has a five-element shaver and a huge amount of flexibility to allow it to adjust to the shape of your face.
Also a contender for best Braun shaver is the sibling in series 9 of the Braun range is the 9093s product. It doesn’t have the clean and charge system and also isn’t quite as thorough as it has a four-element shaving head (this is still pretty impressive, though). This shaver has been rated at 9.7/10.
The Braun Silk-épil 9-890 SensoSmart is both an epilator and a shaver and gets a 9.6 rating, it is great for sensitive skin and the epilator can be used on larger areas such as legs. This makes it a popular choice among women and though the shaver head isn’t the best, the fact that this can do both jobs has resulted in its high rating.
