When it comes to cleaning tile floors, some people are put off by the amount of effort they believe is involved in cleaning what is considered a more specialist floor type.

While it’s true that tile flooring needs to be cleaned in a different way as opposed to carpets or vinyl flooring, this process need not be lengthy.

If you arm yourself with the basics of how to clean tile floors differently, there really shouldn’t be any reason for you to dedicate any more time cleaning your tile floor than what you would expect to on any other type of floor.

Ultimately, by selecting the right vacuum to do the job, you’ll get the best results each time you clean a tile floor.

Give Your Tile Floors a Regular Quick Flick

cleaning-tile-floors_1Nobody really wants to resort to vacuuming a couple of times each day! Yet, tile floors are prone to showing up crumbs and other visible particles, just like carpets are.

However, the problem here is that such debris on tile floors is often more visible because it cannot sink into the fibers as it does on a carpeted surface.

Dirt can, therefore, look more prominent and show up more on a tile floor, meaning if you have such a floor, you are likely to want to clean it much more regularly than any of your carpets.

The good news is, if you regularly sweep the area with a gentle brush a few times a week, it is usually enough to keep a tile floor clean for a few days at least.

When A Quick Brush Up Is Not Enough

Unfortunately, it’s not just crumbs that make a tile floor seem messy. This type of flooring is prone to spills, splashes and stains from a variety of liquids. This is especially a problem when tile floors are used in kitchens, bathrooms, and garage areas.

Such spillages will not be easily fixed by a quick flick of the floor with a brush, instead requiring a wet cleaning solution. A basic mop or a gentle cloth offers an instant clean up here, used with a mild detergent for extra freshness.

A wet clean can also work on improving those dull and gritty tile floor surfaces.

Cleaning Tile Floors by Vacuum

Eventually, tile floors will need a good vacuum. While brushing and mopping will provide a quick fix, this type of flooring will benefit greatly from being vacuumed.

Some people feel as though tiles are too delicate a flooring choice to be vacuumed. While it’s true that you do need to take care when vacuuming tiles, as to not scratch their surface, you can still vacuum as normal on such a floor.

However, to minimize the risk of scratching or damaging tile floors, it is highly recommended that you vacuum this flooring with the right kind of vacuum – that is, one which is designed to be used on this flooring type.

Choosing the Right Vacuum to Clean Tile Floors

cleaning-tile-floors_2When it comes to selecting the best vacuum for tile floors, there are a few options:

A Commercial Vacuum:

Perhaps the best vacuum type for tile floors, a commercial vacuum will offer the best results on all floor tiles. This vacuum type is more powerful and therefore works harder to lift dirt from this flooring type.

A Wet Cleaner Vacuum:

This type of model will usually come complete with:

  • A steam cleaning system
  • Different modes of microfibre pads which can all be easily machine washed for convenience
  • A choice of floor settings

An Upright Vacuum with No Attachments:

The great thing about upright models is that they tend to forego the attachments. Many attachments aren’t designed to be gentle on such floor types and can leave visible scrapes and scratches when used. You can find lots of great upright choices among cordless vacuum models, which only adds to their appeal and ease-of-use.

Other Considerations When Selecting the Best Vacuum for Tile Floors

If your home has a combination of floor types, for example, a mixture of both carpets and tiles, the thought of purchasing a second vacuum to deal with both types isn’t always practical, space wise.

Some people prefer to keep their tile flooring clean by regular sweeping and moping and then hiring a commercial vacuum every few weeks or month to do an all-around clean.

However, it may be worth looking at purchasing an additional vacuum which can be used solely for tile floors but one which perhaps can also be mounted to a wall with a bracket.

A wall-mounted garage vacuum is perfect for thoroughly cleaning tile floors in your garage or even your home but can also be stored neatly out of sight until it’s next needed.

Whatever type of vacuum you select to clean your tile floors, it should be a model which offers the gentlest of cleans, while not taking up too much of your chore time.
